Derik Ng

Director of Program Development and Technology

Derik is a passionate outdoorsman with his interest of the outdoors starting at the early age of 7 when he learnt mountain biking. He soon developed a love for other outdoor activities such as for hiking, kayaking, diving and was a young prodigy in the competitive rock- climbing scene.

Introduced to the rock climbing scene at the age of 13, Derik began to compete the following year and racked his first podium finish in 2011. He soon cemented his reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the world of competitive rock- climbing when he established himself as one of the youngest competitors to be ranked in many prestigious national competitions. These included Pumpfest Singapore, PJ International Climbing Fair, Climbfest Putrajaya and Boulders Competition Wisconsin USA. The highlight of his climbing career and his most notable achievement was when he was chosen to be part of the team representing Malaysia to compete in the IFSC Asia Youth World Championships 2016.

Derik also gained invaluable experiences and understanding of management and outdoor education during his undergraduate years in Wisconsin, USA, where he had the opportunity to engage with many outdoor companies (Crystalaire Adventures, Camp Lookout, Sett Recreational, Hoofers Mountaineering).

Apart from his experiences in the United States, Derik was also the Assistant Race Director of Adventure Race World Series (ARWS) 2019 in Malaysia which contributed towards his growth of his management and decision-making abilities.

His experiences and passion towards the outdoors alongside his degree in Economics continually makes him strive forward, ultimately leading him to co-found Morph Outdoors.

Derik believes in the importance of outdoor education because it has the power to change the way people treat each other and mother nature. He wants and looks forward to sharing his experiences and knowledge in his effort to make a positive change.

Despite a background in finance, KK has always had a strong affinity with Mother Nature.

He enjoys hiking, kayaking and even martial arts, achieving 1st runner up in the Dragon Muay Thai Amateur Fight 2014.

KK first discovered the thrill of rock climbing five years ago. He continued being a passionate climber while pursuing his finance degree in the United States. While there, he had the opportunity to become a bouldering instructor and route setter at a local bouldering gym in Chicago.

Since then KK has climbed in multiple locations across both the US and Malaysia. In 2019 he emerged 1st runner up in an in-house Rockworld Boulder competition remains an active climber even till today.

Upon his return to Malaysia, he had the opportunity to work with an international bank where he seized the chance to conduct a team building program for the Client Life Cycle department.

Experiences such as these and his belief that ‘Knowledge is the Key to Freedom’ further convinced KK that he was meant to be an educator. He is resolute in wanting to share his experience and knowledge of the outdoors to everyone, especially the younger generation in the hope of making the world a better place.
